Censor board told to review quota film on August 8
Swati Deshpande , TNN | Aug 3, 2011, 01.07AM IST
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Tuesday asked director Prakash Jha
and his production house to inform by Wednesday if they were willing
to show their upcoming film Aarakshan to politicians and legislators
who belong to Scheduled Castes or Schedule Tribes.
Two Raigad advocates had moved the high court seeking revocation of
the censor board certificate to the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer saying
the film had a "strong anti-reservation message".
Advocates Amit Naik and Venkatesh Dhond, representing the producers,
denied this. The censor board said that SC/ST members had seen the
film before it was cleared.
The producers said they were willing to show the film only to Justice
D D Sinha and Justice A R Joshi of the Bombay high court and no other
person before its release on August 12.
Following objections raised by MP Samir Bhujbal, the National
Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has summoned censor board
members on August 8 in Delhi to review Aarakshan and check if it
violates the SC/ST Act.
