MRPS flays Ponnala for clinging onto post
TNN | Sep 19, 2011, 03.28AM IST
WARANGAL/MAHBUBNAGAR: As the Sakala Janula Samme entered the sixth day
on Sunday, Telangana MRPS women activists and workers resorted to a
novel protest by staging a dharna in front of IT minister Ponnala
Lakshmaiah's residence in Hanamkonda by beating drums (called as
'chavu dappu' in local parlance).
They conducted a funeral procession of the IT minister and later burnt
his effigy. They raised slogans against the minister for clinging to
his post. They beat drums as the mock funeral procession passed
through the area. Speaking at the meeting,
MRPS state convener Botla Bikshapathi Madiga warned that they would
conduct similar protests if Congress and Telangana TDP MLAs do not
submit their resignations in support of T-demand.
Hundreds of Warangal Walkers Association (WWA) members took out a
rally from Kakatiya University to the martyrs memorial at Adalath
Junction in support of the strike. Employees and workers took out
massive rallies, while the private schools' managements association
extended support to the strike till September 24 as all the schools
would remain close from Monday.
Makthal and Amarachinta MLAs Sitha Dayakar reddy and Dayakar Reddy
faced the wrath of agitators in Mahbubnagar district during SJS on
Sunday. The protesters demanded their resignations and said they would
gherao other MLAs also if they do not tender their resignations
afresh. The education department postponed the quarterly examinations
in the district due to ongoing SJS.
