Dispose of SC,ST atrocities cases quickly: Collector
Nellore: The District Collector, Mr B Sridhar, said on Thursday that a
special meeting would be convened to examine cases related to
atrocities on SCs/STs filed at the division level. He participated in
a review on atrocities cases at the Jubilee Hall here.
He asked the officials concerned to render justice to SCs and STs by
solving cases related to land and property disputes as well as
attacks.
Mr Sridhar instructed police and revenue officials to work in
coordination for tackling cases pertaining to atrocities on SCs/STs.
So far, 578 cases had been solved in courts and 544 cases had been
struck down, while the accused had been punished in 34 cases, he
remarked. He pointed out that 195 cases were under enquiry at SC, ST
Court from a total of 292 cases filed.
In all, 97 cases were pending with the magistrate. The collector
stated financial assistance totaling Rs 7.87 lakh had been sanctioned
to 64 victims.
Steps were being taken, with the support of revenue, police and social
welfare officials, to rehabilitate victims and provide financial
support to SCs and STs so as to to implement the Atrocities Act in
true spirit.
The Gudur MLA, Mr Balli Durgaprasad, urged the collector to register
FIR immediately against those involved in attacking SCs/STs. The
Venkatagiri MLA, Mr K Ramakrishnaiah, the Superintendent of Police, Mr
Ramana Kumar, Additional Joint Collector, Mr Laxmikantham, and other
officials were
present.
