Trio chop off UP dalit girl's ear for resisting rape

A teenaged Dalit girl was subjected to brutal attack and one of her
ears chopped off while resisting a rape attempt by three youths in
Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district.
Police claim that one of the accused has been arrested. According to
police, the teenager was attacked late on Saturday night with a
sharp-edged weapon in Udauli village in Fatehpur, about 120 km from
here.
"The 17-year-old girl was attacked with a sharp weapon, causing deep
gashes on her face and hands, while one of her ears was nearly chopped
off," said Special Director General of Police Brij Lal.
Victim raises an alarm
Fatehpur Superintendent of Police Ram Bharose said, "She was
intercepted by the three youth while she was returning from the
fields. They tried to gag her and tear off her clothes in an attempt
to gangrape her, but the girl used all her strength to resist the
assault and raised a loud scream, which alerted some villagers," he
said.
The trio fled from the spot but not before assaulting her with a sharp
weapon. Police have arrested one of the accused Hari Shankar.
46 booked for attacking dalits
Meanwhile cases were registered against 46 people in Tamil Nadu on
Sunday for allegedly attacking dalits and ransacking their houses in
Tamaraikulam area. The incident, in which 10 dalits were injured
occurred on Saturday night in Tiruchuzhi Block, following a dispute
over installation of flag posts of dalit-outfit Viduthalai
Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
Caste hindus attacked dalits, including women and children, ransacked
houses and took away valuables including jewellery.
