Attack on Shankar Rao: 9 Cong workers held

HYDERABAD: With Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) activists
intensifying their protest over the attack on handlooms and textiles
minister P Shankar Rao at NTR Colony in LB Nagar, the Cyberabad police
arrested nine Congress activists who were reported to be followers of
home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, on Saturday.
LB Nagar sub-inspector R Ravinder told STOI that nine Congress
activists, including corporator Sudheer Reddy, Sajid and Appaiah, were
arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Police registered cases
against them under sections 341 (Wrongful restraint), 323 (Voluntarily
causing hurt), 290 (Public nuisance) and 506 (Criminal intimidation)
of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A few days ago, alleged loyalists of home minister Sabita Indra Reddy
prevented Shankar Rao from entering a locality when he went to meet
his friend Ali, a resident of NTR Colony.
Subsequently, the situation turned tense when the minister was
attacked with eggs. Police had to step in and used mild force. Though
police were present at the location, the mob ghearoed the minister and
demanded that he leave the place. NTR Nagar is part of the Maheshwara
constituency represented by Sabita Redddy.
Police did not arrest them due to political pressure. However, on
Saturday with increasing pressure from MRPS and Shankar Rao, police
arrested the nine Congress workers.
