Infighting in SAD: Dalit leader alleges being threatened by CPS
Gourav Sally, TNN Aug 31, 2011, 03.47am IST
GURDASPUR: Factionalism came to fore within the SAD in Gurdaspur, just
three days ahead of CM P S Badal's visit to Sri Hargobindpur
constituency when Kashmir Singh Khunda, dalit leader and aspirant of
ticket from the constituency, alleged that Des Raj Dhugga, chief
parliamentary secretary and MLA from Gardhiwala, and his companions
had open fired outside his residence in Bahadur Hussian village on
Sunday night. Both the SAD leaders are aspirants of controversial
Hargobindpur seat after it was declared a 'reserve' seat in recent
delimitation.
On Monday, Kashmir Singh lodged a complaint against Des Raj Dhugga in
Rangar Nangal police station, alleging that he had received a phone
call at midnight on Sunday from Dhugga, who abused him on the phone.
According to the complaint, the phone was then handed over to someone
else who proceeded to threaten Kashmir Singh in the same call, warning
him to avoid staking claim on the party ticket as Dhugga had already
been selected. Kashmir alleged that thereafter, he received nearly
eight calls from the same number on Sunday night, wherein he was
threatened that he would be killed if he tried to surpass Dhugga.
Refuting all allegations, Dhugga said, "It's just a publicity stunt
for defaming me. I have never even met this man. Moreover, it is up to
the party to decide that only the deserving candidate gets the ticket
for elections. If the party leadership deems fit, it will ask me to
contest from Hargobindpur seat,'' he said, adding, "The police has
found nothing against me in the investigation and all allegation
against me are false."
SSP Batala, Gurkirat Singh said, ''We found no evidence of firing
outside Kashmir Singh's home. Three officers including, a DSP along
with the police force, had reached the spot following the complaint.
Our investigation is on."
