Two-day Dalit literary meet from June 18

The Karnataka Dalit Sahitya Parishat will conduct a national
conference on Dalit literature at Koppal on June 18 and 19. Mudnakoodu
Chinnaswamy, poet, has been selected to preside over the conference.

The conference will include seminars on various aspects of Dalit
culture and literature, Dalit movements, the need to change the life
of Dalit women and Dalit literature in Telugu. In addition, there
would be poets' meet, Kavya-Kuncha-Gayana, book exhibition and
cultural programmes, according to a press release by C. Manjunath,
president of the district unit of the Dalit Sahitya Parishat.

Satyanand Patrota, poet, and D.G. Sagar of the Karnataka Dalit
Sangharsh Samiti, will be felicitated during the conference. "Burra
Katha" exponent "Nadoja" Daroji Eeramma, of the nomadic tribe from
Daroji in Bellary district, will be conferred "Bruhadeshi" award and
the "Dalit Chetan" award would be conferred on Bheemrao Gasti from

The "Dalit Siri" award would be conferred on P.S. Doddamani, Editor of
the Dalit Kranti, a newspaper in Hubli, the release said.

M.M. Kalburgi, research scholar and former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada
University of Hampi, will inaugurate the conference. Mallepuram
Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Bangalore, will be
presenting the awards.
