Representation sought for BCs and Dalits in panel

BANGALORE: Members of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Thinkers Forum staged a
protest here on Thursday against non-inclusion of representatives from
minorities, backward classes and Dalits in the panel set up to draft
the Lokpal Bill.

Among those who protested in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue on
Racecourse Road were the former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik, forum
chairman B.S. Shivanna, and former chairpersons of the Karnataka State
Commission for Backward Classes Ravi Varma Kumar and C.S. Dwarkanath.

"This panel is oblivious to the fact that no representation has been
given to the backward classes (BCs) which constitute 60 per cent of
the population," Ms. Naik said, and urged that there should be
representation to Dalits, BCs and women in the panel.
