Delhi govt considering dedicated courts for offences against
SC/ST
New Delhi, Feb 15 (PTI) Delhi government is considering setting up of
dedicated courts for trial of offences relating to atrocities against
SC/STs.
Officials said the issue figured during a meeting of the State Level
Vigilance and Monitoring Committee set up under the provision of SC/ST
Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Presiding over the meeting, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit issued an
order to launch a website to make the people aware of the provisions
of the Act.
"This will also facilitate registration of FIRs related to violation
of rules under the Act and go a long way in preventing atrocities
against SC/ST," Dikshit said.
The meeting was also attended by the Finance Minister A K Walia,
Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, a number of MLAs, besides
senior officials of the concerned departments.
The meeting was told that victims have been facing difficulties in
getting their FIRs registered.
"It was decided to bring awareness on the provisions of the Act. It
was also decided that signboards stating designated police officer in
Thanas and SDM offices will be put up to enable the victims to seek
assistance in getting their FIRs registered," said a senior official.
