Bharati Pradhikara chairman Pradhan Gurudatt releasing the six select
volumes of the complete works and speeches of B.R. Ambedkar in
Bangalore on Monday.
Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday paid floral
tributes to B.R. Ambedkar on his 54th death anniversary and said
shedding caste barriers totally would be the real tribute to him.
Speaking at a function near the statue of Ambedkar in front of the
Vidhana Soudha, Mr. Yeddyuappa said the B.R. Ambedkar Corporation had
sanctioned loans to the tune of Rs. 53.94 crore to 28,190
beneficiaries in 2009-10. It would sanction loans worth Rs. 70 crore
in 2010-11, he said.
Social Welfare Minister A. Narayanaswamy was present. Members of
various Dalit organisations attended the programme.
Books released
The Department of Kannada and Culture will bring out all good
literature that has focussed on social and human development from any
language, including English, into Kannada, the Minister for Kannada
and Culture Govind M. Karjol has said.
He was speaking after releasing the six select volumes of the complete
works and speeches of B.R. Ambedkar brought out by the Kuvempu Bhasha
Bharati Authority here on occasion of Ambedkar's 54t {+h} death
anniversary.
He said that following the department's suggestion the Kuvempu Bhasha
Bharati Authority was planning to bring out a book on Ambedkar written
by Dhananjay Kher.
Mr. Karjol observed that many were under the impression that Ambedkar
fought for the development of Dalits only, but the fact was he stood
for the overall development of society and had only drawn the
attention of the nation towards the deplorable living standards of the
poor.
Although the Constitution provided reservation for all those who
deserved it in education and employment, it was unfortunate that
nearly 90 per cent of the poor were yet to get benefited, he said.
Welcoming the gathering, Director, Kannada and Culture, Manu Baligar
said the department had brought out 14 volumes, excluding the six
volumes that had been released, in the past 17 years.
It would bring out another six volumes and a couple of other works by
December 2012 in association with the authority, he said.
Chairman of the Kannada Book Authority Siddalingaiah spoke.
Registrar of the authority P. Narayanaswamy proposed a vote of thanks.
