Lucknow Claiming that it is due to her government's efforts that
Naxals are yet to undertake any operations in the state, Chief
Minister Mayawati directed her officials to keep a close watch on
Maoists. Proper security should also be ensured in jails where such
elements are kept, she said.
Directing the police to develop a proper coordination with the
administration officials in Naxal-affected districts, she said they
need to look into developmental aspects as well. These include
construction of roads, availability of drinking water and opening of
new schools and timely use should be made of government funds in such
areas, she said.
At a meeting held in Yojana Bhavan on Monday, Cabinet Secretary
Shashank Shekhar Singh and Chief Secretary A K Gupta communicated the
CM's directives to senior police officers. The meeting was also
attended by Additional Cabinet Secretary Net Ram, Principal Secretary
(Planning) J N Chamber and DGP Karamvir Singh.
According to a release issued by the state's Information and Public
Relation Department, the CM has asked the authorities to ensure
promotion of the policemen — right from constables to Deputy-SP rank
officers — on time.
The officers were also asked to ensure proper respect to the people's
representatives and stay alert in view of the forthcoming panchayat
elections.
The CM had also underlined that there should not be any communal/caste
tension anywhere. The officers were also directed to ensure proper
action in incidents involving atrocities against the SC/ST people.
The government also directed authorities concerned to constitute a
women's force within the PAC.
With a focus on improving the traffic system in Lucknow, she also
ordered that traffic control rooms be set up in the large cities of
Western UP before Commonwealth Games begins. She also underlined the
need for proper coordination among various police wings like PAC, ATS,
STF and Traffic.
