Indore: The new leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under
Nitin Gadkari is attempting a consolidation of new sections of society
such as Dalits and minorities, while a section of the party led by
Rajnath Singh advocates status quo.
"Dalit welfare is part of our philosophy of political life. BJP stands
for justice to the Dalits and to eradicate untouchability," Gadkari
said in his presidential speech, while suggesting a softer approach to
solve issues such as the proposed Ram temple at Ayodhya by consensus
and taking Muslims along.
"Today, I appeal to the Muslim community to be generous towards the
sentiments and feelings of Hindus... If you (Muslims) give up your
claim on the land at the disputed site, we will cooperate in the
construction of a magnificent masjid (mosque) in nearby land," he
said.
