Ilaiah's caution on 'Social Telangana'
Special Correspondent
Says Dalit, BC, minority interests cannot be realised with 'feudal' leadership
Weaker sections might end up more oppressed in Telangana dominated by
upper castes
Agitations creating distress for poor while the rich leading them are
least affected
HYDERABAD: Noted intellectual Kancha Ilaiah has cautioned Dalits, BCs
and minorities not to have illusions that their social, political,
economic and educational aspirations would be realised in separate
Telangana if the present political Joint Action Committee was at the
helm.
Distant possibility
Speaking at a seminar on 'Telangana State - social justice' here on
Thursday, Prof. Ilaiah said that the political JAC was dominated by
upper caste feudal lords to protect their vested interests and weaker
sections might end up more oppressed in such Telangana State than
under Andhra capitalists.
Noting that the latest developments in New Delhi did not hold out any
possibility for formation of Telangana in the near future, Prof.
Ilaiah said even if the State was delayed by 20 years, only leadership
of Dalits, BCs and minorities forming majority population alone would
pave way for democratic and social Telangana.
He said it was important to provide downtrodden with access to free
and compulsory quality English medium education from KG to 12th class,
help them become officers, Ministers with knowledge and wisdom to make
independent decisions.
'Instigating people'
Likening K. Chandrasekhar Rao's TRS to Maharashtra's Shiva Sena, he
said he was instigating people of one region against another. Urging
students not to resort to bus, rail roko and suicides, he said it only
created distress for the poor while the rich leading the movement were
least affected.
Other speakers like I. Bhimrao, M. Lakshmaiah, K. Krishna, Prof.
Komranna, Prof. D. Vinod Kumar emphasised Dalits should lead the
movement unitedly for Telangana to get back their land, resources,
rights for education, employment and political power from upper
castes.
