Lucknow : The woman who tried to meet UP Chief Minister Mayawati at
her rally in Gorakhpur on Monday, leading the CM to call her an
opposition "pet dog", only wanted to complain that the police were not
lodging an FIR into the death of her son.

When 45-year-old Sumitra Devi, a resident of Bharwalia village, tried
to cross into the area kept free for security reasons in front of the
dais, securitymen stopped her. She tried to force her way through,
provoking Mayawati's reaction.

A CD of Mayawati's speech has been sent to the Election Commission.

Now back in her village, Sumitra Devi claims her 18-year-old son Sunil
Kumar had been murdered. "The police are sheltering the accused, they
did not lodge my FIR." Having failed to meet Mayawati, she says she
has lost all hope of justice.

Lucknow : Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's praise of BSP founder Kanshiram,
party president Mayawati on Tuesday said his words "hurt like a
thorn'' because neither the Congress nor Rahul Gandhi had uttered any
words of sympathy at the time of Kanshiram's death.

At a press conference on Monday, Rahul Gandhi had said he respected
Kanshiram as "a true leader who moved politics in UP''.

In a statement, Mayawati said when "the Congress or its Yuvraj'' talks
of respecting Kanshiram, it sounds like an insult for which they
cannot be forgiven.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha has sent the CD,
containing video recording of Mayawati's Monday rally in Gorakhpur
where she had said the opposition parties were using their "pet dogs"
for spoiling her programme, to the Election Commission.

BIJAPUR: A Dalit girl was tied to a tree for over four hours and
beaten up, accordin to reports from Budihal PH village in Sindagi
taluk on Thursday.

The victim, Nirmala Kantheppa Harijan (14), was beaten up by one
Ninganna Biradar who objected to her picking up a handful of green
grass from his fields. Villagers watched helplessly as Biradar
threatened them and dared anyone to stop him. Biradar was also said to
have been angry over sheep belonging to Nirmala's family grazing on
his jowar crops

a few days ago. Nirmala has no mother and her father was away in

Maharashtra working as a labourer. Police who released Nirmala, said
Biradar was absconding and a case has been registered at Sindagi
police station.

President of the local Laxmi Mahila Samukhya Sangh, Sharanabai
Harijan, vicepresident Neelamma and other dalit leaders condemned the
incident.

10 injured as Dalits & Patels clash

A clash between Dalits and Patels in Chosar village, Dascroi taluka on
Monday left 10 people injured, including three who were hospitalised
with severe wounds.

Police have registered two complaints against both the parties. A
Dalit deputy sarpanch of Gram Panchayat was also injured in the brawl.

Three grievously injured were identified as Babu Gohil, Aruna Solanki
and Devji Solanki currently admitted in LG Hospital.

According to sources in the police, a group of Patels attacked two
Dalit youths outside the village to avenge a clash between the clans
that took place on January 20. Dalits attacked a group of Patels in
return. A complaint in the matter was filed by Patels against Dalits.

Cops have arrested six people for the assault, including four Patels
and two Dalits.

Cops sever Dalit boy's ear while questioning him for theft in Madhya Pradesh

In a bizarre case of police brutality, two men in khaki allegedly
pulled off a boy's ear while questioning him in connection with a
theft in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district recently.

The 13-year old Dalit boy was taken into custody from his home on
charge of theft. He was badly beaten up at the police station during
his interrogation.

According to the boy's family, the policemen lifted the boy by his
ears, pulling his left ear off in the process.

Following a complaint by the boy's family, the policemen were
suspended and booked for their brutal act.

However, the accused policemen have been missing since the complaint
and according to an officer of the area a manhunt has been launched to
nab them.
