Re: [ZESTCaste] Stress on holistic approach to Dalit liberation

Dear all

thanks for posting my response

i feel we should not stick to one doctrine of dalit liberation wirtten years back, but evolve through pedagogy of oppressed in present day context and link it to voices of other oppressed group. let a practical alterantive emerge beyond capitalism and communism - but led by voices of oppressed, with dalits and adivasiss leading

in total agreement of the position. i think we should be back to pedagogy of oppressed . why should international thesoophical institute, chennai by led by elite. how many position holders are dlaits, adivasis, and oppressed groups of different counties?. let us start an altrenative movement of such kind where the oppressed are leaders, and people like me the back seat

Tamil Nadu - Vellore

Stress on holistic approach to Dalit liberation

Special Correspondent

VELLORE: South India has the largest number of oppressed people in the
world, according to A.M. Chinnappa, Archbishop of Chennai and
president of the Tamil Nadu Catholic Bishops' Council (TNBC).

Releasing the Dalit Bible Commentaries (DBC) at a function organised
in connection with the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Centre for
Dalit/Subaltern Studies (CDS) at the Bishop's House here on Saturday,
Rev. Chinnappa said that in no other part of the world there are so
many oppressed persons as in South India. Tamil Nadu is the State
where casteism is most prevalent in India, followed by Andhra Pradesh.
The attempt of the Dalit Bible Commentaries, namely Deuteronomy and 1
& 2 Samuel Commentaries, is to lead the people from darkness that
casteism symbolises, into light. The Archbishop said that the Dalits
constitute the root of theology, and therefore, the task of liberation
of Dalits should be taken up after integrating the different
theologies. Any attempt at Dalit liberation should not only involve
the oppressed people but also the oppressors, to have a holistic
approach towards the goal of Dalit liberation, he said.

Rev. Chinnappa honoured James Massey, Director, CDS and author of 1 &
2 Samuel Commentaries, and Monodeep Daniel, author of Deuteronomy. I.
John Mohan Razu introduced the commentaries. The guests received
copies of the commentaries from the Archbishop.

Rev. Y. William, Church of South India Bishop of Vellore, released the
Leviticus and Numbers Commentaries.

Rev. P. Soundararaju, Catholic Bishop of Vellore and Chairman of TNBC
Commission for Youth, welcomed the gathering.

[ZESTCaste] Masters of the game by virtue of their lineage

Masters of the game by virtue of their lineage

Though the last two decades have seen several women becoming chief
ministers, nearly all have reached the top by virtue of having a
political godfather or a privileged political background. Mamata
Banerjee had neither. Here's a look at some other women who have shot
to the top in state politics

Vasundhara Raje Scindia, royal leader
Chief minister of Rajasthan (Dec 2003-Dec 2008) Vasundhara's mother,
the late Vijaya Raje Scindia, initiated her into politics. Vasundhara
served as cabinet minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government,
and romped home to a majority in the 2003 Rajasthan polls.
Likes to hear: "Hukum keejiye, Rani sahiba"
Doesn't like to hear: "Shane Warne is leaving the Rajasthan Royals"

Rabri Devi, her husband's wife
Chief minister of Bihar (July 1997- Feb 1999, March 1999-March 2000,
2000-2005) and wife of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav,
she was the chief inheritor of Bihar's problems. Having taken over the
reins of Bihar when Lalu was implicated in the fodder scam, the
biggest import of her political speeches was 'support my husband'.
Likes to hear: "Lalu has decided to shave his ears"
Doesn't like to hear: "Narsanhar aur bhrashtachar, jail se chalti thi sarkar"

J Jayalalithaa, Actress-turned neta
Chief minister of Tamil Nadu (1991-1996, 2001-2006), Jayalalithaa
entered Tamil Nadu politics thanks to her close association with Tamil
cinema superstar and former chief minister M.G. Ramachandran. Her
administration was known for some progressive policies, like the
banning of lottery tickets.
Likes to hear: "Want to go saree shopping?"
Doesn't like to hear: "Jaya TV's TRP's behind Kalaignar TV"

Mayawati, Dalit power
Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh (June 1995-Oct 1995, March 1997-Sept
1997, May 2002-Sept 2003, May 2007-present) and a protégé of Dalit
leader Kanshi Ram, Mayawati symbolises the aspirations of millions of
Dalits. The youngest and first woman Dalit CM of UP, she has
controversially channeled state funds to build statues and memorial
parks dedicated to Dalit leaders.
Likes to hear: "Now that we have renamed Amethi, can Rae Bareilly be
far behind?"
Doesn't like to hear: "We have a proposal for a new Taj Corridor project"

Uma Bharti, Volatile sanyasin
Chief minister of Madhya Pradesh (Dec 2003-Aug 2004),
Bharti first caught national attention during the Ramjanmabhoomi
movement. Known for her mercurial temper and fiery oratory, she showed
political shrewdness by setting aside a Hindutva agenda and campaigned
on a development plank, beating the suave Digvijay Singh in the 2003
MP elections. But she was forced to resign a few months later.
Likes to hear: "You are being re-inducted into the BJP"
Doesn't like to hear: "You would look gorgeous in green!"

Sheila Dikshit, Rock star aunty
Into her third term as chief minister of Delhi (Dec 2003-present),
Sheila Dikshit's plusses include a clean-politician image and good job
performance. But her image has taken a recent slide after the CWG mess
and her inability to make the national capital safer for women.
Likes to hear: "Delhi Metro, flyovers, malls…"
Doesn't like to hear: "BRT, CWG, MCD..."

[ZESTCaste] Anna Hazare is anti-Dalit: Mayawati

Anna Hazare is anti-Dalit: Mayawati
May 13, 2011, 06.09pm IST

LUCKNOW: Social activist Anna Hazare has laid bare his anti-Dalit
mindset by not including even one member from the community on the
anti-graft Lokpal Bill drafting committee, Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Mayawati said Friday.

Addressing a special function to mark the completion of four years of
her government here, she said: "Just as the Congress-led central
government displayed its anti-Dalit approach by not caring to include
a Dalit in the Lokpal Bill draft committee, so did Anna Hazare, by not
bothering to have a Dalit on his civil society panel, which reflects
his anti-Dalit mindset."

According to her, "the exclusion of Dalits from the draft committee as
a whole is a betrayal of the entire Dalit population of this country".

investor's mind. Wealthdaily.com/Gold_Report

"While I welcome the various anti-corruption movements across the
country, I am intrigued about the intent behind Anna Hazare's move to
use Uttar Pradesh as a launch pad for his movement.

"Even though Anna Hazare belongs to Maharastra, where there is no
dearth of scams, and likewise, there are scams in several other states
too, yet he launched his anti-corruption campaign in UP, where not a
single scam has taken place," the chief minister said.

"It appears that some people in Anna Hazare's civil society were
politically motivated and they had chosen UP as a battleground for
their campaign only under the influence of certain political groups.

"No wonder, the much hyped anti-corruption campaign is fast getting
reduced to an anti-Dalit exercise," she said.
