Mayawati talking caste, religion to hide her misrule in UP: Congress
 TNN Dec 20, 2011, 02.23AM IST

LUCKNOW: Congress kept up its attack on BSP, saying UP chief minister
Mayawati was trying to divert attention from her misrule and the crime
situation in the state by talking about caste and religion. AICC
spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said the attack was laughable because it
was well known that the party provides "the most inclusive" government
with a rainbow coalition. He said Mayawati focused on installing
expensive statues while showing "stone-like insensitivity" to the
needs of the common man . "BSP has decided to go on the offensive to
hide its failures. So it says nothing on law and order, criminal
elements in BSP, and is back to its old tricks to confuse people and
to seeing caste and religious groups as temporary votebanks," Singhvi
 said.tnn

He added that neither minorities nor caste groups were going to be
fooled by this rhetoric and BSP too had seen the writing on the wall.

At a massive rally in Lucknow, Mayawati said Congress regimes had seen
the maximum riots against Muslims and also demanded that the
Constitution be amended to provide for quota to Muslims. The BSP
offensive came after Rahul Gandhi, in a whirlwind tour of central UP,
attacked the state government for corruption, saying the "elephant in
 Lucknow was eating welfare funds".
