Basavaraju said that the district convention held recently has decided
to support dalits and fight against the atrocities and untouchability
meted out to dalits, which is still existent in many parts of the

Speaking at a press meet in Mysore on Wednesday, Basavaraju said that
the funds earmarked for the dalits should be utilised judicially. He
also stressed for the judicial implementation of forest act , drop the
idea of closing down the Kannada medium schools, minimum wages of Rs
10,000 for the workers of unorganised sector and suitable price for
the tobacco, silk, sugar cane, cotton and other crops.

The demands also included cancellation of contract system and
beginning of double railway track works on the Mysore-Bangalore route
and create job opportunities for hundreds of people.

The memorandum included 24 clauses including priority to lay railway
track on Mysore-Kerala, Mysore-Tamil Nadu and Mysore-Madikeri.
Protests will be held if necessary to lay stress on their demands, he
said. Somashekar, Jagadish, Jagannath, Vijaykumar and others were
present in the press meet.

The new office-bearers of the district unit are K Basavaraju,
Secretary, L Jagannath, V Basavaraju, Vijayakumar, H S Jagadish,
Jayaramu, Somashankar and Sunanda.
