Two-day Dalit writers' meet from October 29

SHIMOGA: A State-level Dalit Writers' and Artists' conference will be
held at the Kuvempu Rang Mandir here on October 29 and 30.
It is being organised by Prof. B. Krishnappa Trust and the Karnataka
Dalit Sangharsh Samithi in association with B. Krishnappa Geleyara
Balaga, Srishti Sahitya Vedike, SC/ST Employees' Association, Shimoga
District Bouddha Maha Sabha and other social and cultural
associations.
Giving details about the conference, managing trustee of the trust
Indira Krishnappa and general secretary Mavalli Shankar told
presspersons here on Monday that three sessions, a poets' meet and a
book exhibition would be held as part of the conference.
Programmes
They said that dramas and other cultural programmes would be held in
the evening on both days.
A book release function and a painting exhibition would also be part
of the conference.
They said that writer L. Basavaraju would formally inaugurate the
conference. The first conference was organised in Bhadravati in 1976.
It was the initiative of Prof. Krishnappa, a Dalit leader.
Ms. Krishnappa and Mr. Shankar said that thinkers and writers such as
U.R. Ananthamurthy, Devanur Mahadev, Ravi Varma Kumar, B.T. Lalita
Naik, A.K. Subbaiah, Chandrasekhar Patil and G.K. Govind Rao were
expected to participate in the conference.
