The Gurgaon police have booked three lawyers, including the president
and secretary of the District Bar Association, under various sections
of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on
the complaint of a judge of a Gurgaon court on Saturday. The judge
alleged that the lawyers used caste slur during court proceedings and
even threatened to kill him. Agitated office bearers of the Bar
Association have threatened to go on a two-day strike from Monday if
the cases against them were not revoked.
They have also demanded action against the judge.
"Judicial Magistrate Ankur Lal filed a complaint against three
lawyers, including Bar Association president Mir Singh, secretary Ajay
Chowdhary and Vikas Yadav, alleging that they made derogatory remarks
against him and his caste. We have booked them under various
provisions of IPC as well as SC/ST Act. We are yet arrest them as
investigation is on," said DCP (west) Rameshwar Dayal.
According to Mir Singh, the incident took place on Thursday. "The
judge asked Vikas Yadav to leave the court, as a Delhi lawyer was not
allowed to appear in any case in a Gurgaon court. Following this, we
went along with Yadav to request the judge to allow the former to
argue his case. We did not insult or use derogatory language against
the judge." Singh said that the association will go on strike if their
demands were not met.
