Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Election
Commission is likely to take a decision on Saturday on whether to
cover up statues of chief minister Mayawati and that of the Bahujan
samaj Party's poll symbol, the elephant.

According to a CNN-IBN report, the EC
may take a decision on this at its meeting on Saturday evening as many
political parties, including the BJP, have complained that the statues
give the BSP an unfair advantage.

The BJP had demanded that the Election Commission should order removal
of statues of elephants - the poll symbol of BSP - installed in the

"Though government hoardings and advertisements were removed after
model code of conduct came into effect, the statues of elephants have
not been removed," BJP national spokesman Ramnath Kovid had said in
Lucknow on last Saturday.
