Social welfare minister speaks to the members of dalit families

DHARWAD: Minister for social welfare A Narayan Swamy has assured that
an officer of DIG rank will inquire into the incident of social
boycott of a dalit family in Nayaknur village of Navalgund taluk in
Dharwad district.

Narayan Swamy who visited the village along with RDPR minister
Jagadish Shettar on Sunday met the dalits of the village and told them
that the guilty will be punished as per law.

He assured the members of Shivappa Basappa Madar's family that the
government would provide protection to the family membrs as well as to
other dalits in the village.

The minister's visit comes in the wake of a dalit family being
threatened of social boycott from Anandagouda Patil his sons of
Nayaknur village.

Narayan Swamy said the government would take the incidents of
harassment to the dalits seriously and would not allow such things to

RDPR minister Jagadish Shettar said the police had already taken
necessary action as per law against the accused. He said the
government would release Rs 50 lakh for the development of dalits
colony in Nayaknur and more help would be extended through Ambedkar
SC/ST Development Corporation.
