[ZESTCaste] 2010 regular scholarships - selected students stats

Dear friends,
I here with submitting statics of students selected for scholarships for 2010. Response is disappointing. When we first (in 2003) advertise in newspaper for just 2 scholarships in just Guntur district, we got more than 500 applications. After expanding it to all Andhra Pradesh, advertising in newspapers will be too expensive. So, we started sending advertisement every year to all government and social welfare schools in Andhra Pradesh. But, some reason the advertisement is not reaching the targeted students. Though initially we got very good response, gradually it is diminishing instead of increasing. Unfortunately, this year, we don't have applications from most of the districts. This may be due to the time of the year we are sending the advertisement or the school management is not informing the students of the availability of the scholarships. Another surprising fact is that this year very few male students applied. That is the reason why we are giving only 30 scholarships are allocated for this type of scholarships. All other money will be spent in helping the organizations that help scavenging, orphan, and other deprived children.

We need to explore the issues and find solutions to this . FFEI wish is to reach as many students as possible and encourage them to complete for these scholarships. Though money has no value for the HAVEs in these days, Rs. 5,000 cash for a poor student is a huge amount.

We also plan to give books to a college and schools wherever we feel a need and we got request for. IF you have any viable ideas if helping these children, please let us know.

Here are the statistics I collected for the students selected this year for regular scholarships. Please write to me if you have questions.

With regards
Ben Kaila

We selected these students keeping social justice and equal representation in mind.
