Dalit woman thrashed

SURAT: The hair of a dalit woman was cut and she was thrashed by two
women and two men for her alleged affair with a member of their
family.
Four days ago in another incident, a woman's head had been shaved at
Palsana for similar reason, police said, adding that the four accused
were arrested and produced in a local court here on Thursday.
The victim Sangita Solanki, a resident of Chhappan Ni Chawl, was
kidnapped by Rajesh Kahar, Kamlesh Kahar, their sister Anita and
mother Kamla from Sagarampura on Tuesday when she was returning home
after finishing work.
They took her to a nearby place where they allegedly thrashed her
before cutting her hair with a pair of scissors. The accused also
injured her with a blade, police said.
The victim was later released and had to be taken to a hospital, whose
officials informed the police. A complaint in the case was lodged on
Wednesday.
Sangita has claimed that she was attacked by members of Kahar family
out of suspicion that she was having an illicit affair with Anita's
husband, police said.
