It's not just Uttar Pradesh where Mayawati exercises colossal power.
The chief minister's influence in the national capital was evident as
even government officials couldn't enter the bungalow allotted to her
party for checking unauthorised construction.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief is among the list of over 180,
present and former, MPs who have allegedly carried out unauthorised
construction in bungalows allotted to them in Delhi's Lutyen's zone
area.

The list was made public by central public works department (CPWD) in
reply to an RTI query by activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal.

As per the reply, unauthorised construction at the bungalow allotted
to BSP president included covering of verandah in entire width of the
bungalow, building of rooms, toilet, bathroom and temporary tin shed
of steel column and metal sheet.

As per CPWD, this was the status only till October 31, 2010, as they
said: "It is not possible to get the exact quantum of unauthorised
construction as entry [in the building] is not allowed."

Some other high and mighty who also figure in the list are senior BJP
leaders LK Advani, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari, Lok
Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan, former railway minister Lalu
Prasad Yadav, Amar Singh, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh,
Janata Dal (U) chief Sharad Yadav, Congress leader Ahmed M Patel,
Rajiv Shukla, Mohammad Azharuddin.

MPs Kirti Azad, Balbir Punj, M Venkaiah Naidu, Shatrughan Sinha,
Yashwant Sinha, Suresh Kalmadi, Arjun Singh and Raj Babbar also figure
in the list.
BJP's Delhi office and national headquarters, and BSP national
headquarter have also been listed.

The CPWD has said notices to remove the construction were issued to
parliamentarians mentioned in the list. However, it does not mention
if such notices were complied with.

"No FIR was filed … It has been decided that the unauthorised
construction shall be removed at the time of change of occupancy. At
the time of vacation if any deficiency is found in the items issued to
occupant, amount is recovered or the deficiency report is sent to
concerned branch in Lok Sabha secretariat, Rajya Sabha
secretariat/Director of Estate," CPWD said.
