'Ambedkar's idea of social justice was based on social, cultural roots'

LUCKNOW: "Today the country needs to restructure its institutions,
public and private, and the societal behaviour both to build a new
humane society ensuring full justice to all,'' said dean, School of
Ambedkar Studies, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Prof
Kameshwar Choudhary. He was speaking on the occasion of Parinirvan
Diwas of Dr BR Ambedkar at the Dr Ambedkar Studies Centre of Vidyant
Hindu PG College on Monday.

Talking on social justice: Indian perspectives, Choudhary said that
Ambedkar favoured neither liberal nor Marxist perspectives on social
justice. Instead, he favoured radico-liberal perspective based on
useful means for social transformation. "Ambedkar's idea of social
justice was based on our indigenous historical, social and cultural
roots,'' said Choudhary.

Earlier, dean, faculty of arts, Lucknow University, AK Sengupta
chaired the session. He emphasised the need of inter-disciplinary
research on Ambedkar's ideas and their contemporary relevance. Present
on the occasion was executive director of the centre Amit Vardhan,
principal, Dharam Kaur, president, managing committee of the college,
Amlendu Datta College.

A similar kind of event was also organised at the Lucknow University
on Monday. Ex V-C, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad,
Prof Angane Lal, LU V-C, MK Mishra, head of the department, economics,
Prof Yashvir Tyagi, dean, faculty of law, AK Awasthi, director, legal
cell, DNS Yadav spoke on various aspects of Ambedkar that included his
economic thoughts and its relevance today, his contribution in making
the Indian constitution, social justice and others.
