The woman had spoken out against discrimination by upper castes in Jait three months ago and that complaint had caused major embarrassment to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan since Jait is his native place.
The National Minorities Commission ordered an inquiry and Chauhan visited Jait soon after to declare that Dalits were being treated as equals. But now, three months after the issue was supposedly resolved, the same woman has alleged that she was raped and banished from the village because she had dared to complain.
She said, "Liladhar and Bimlesh these two men barged into my house, cut off the electricity and raped me. Now I have been forced out of the village. No one is registering my complaint. I have no where to go."
Seizing the opportunity to embarrass the Chief Minister, Congress took the victim to the state Director General of Police who in turn ordered an inquiry.
Aruna Rao, Inspector General of police said, "The DG has asked me to conduct an enquiry and we are looking into the complaint."
Chauhan so far has refused to comment on the woman's complaint even as efforts are on to reach a compromise.
