State-level Madiga convention in Chitradurga on Saturday.

Chitradurga: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has promised that his
Government will in the next session of the Legislative Assembly get a
resolution passed on providing internal reservation for the Madiga
community.

He was speaking after inaugurating the State-level Madiga convention
and the launch of development works for Madara Channaiah Gurupeetha
here on Saturday.

He asserted that after the passage of the resolution, he would visit
New Delhi, along with Ministers and MPs from the State, to urge the
Union Government to approve the resolution.

Funds

The Government had granted Rs. 10 crore towards implementation of the
Sadashiv Committee report, Mr. Yeddyurappa said.

" If required, more funds will be given," he said.

The Chief Minster promised to revive the Karnataka Leather Industries
Development Corporation (LIDKAR) by granting Rs. 10 crore for it. As
demanded by Dalit leaders, he promised it would be named after Babu
Jagjivan Ram. Holding politicians responsible for the plight of Dalits
in the country, he said: "Political leaders have spent more time in
sorting out their own differences than looking at the concerns of the
weaker sections of society."

Mr. Yeddyurappa said his Government had granted Rs. 2 crore and seven
acres towards the construction of Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan in
Bangalore.

"Besides, Rs. 20 crore has been earmarked in the budget for
construction of Babu Jagjivan Ram bhavans in all districts," he added.

He promised to grant Rs. 1 crore more to the gurupeetha.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar inaugurated the function, Minister of
State for Railways, K.H. Muniyappa, Leader of the Opposition in
Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, KPCC president R.V. Deshpande,
Cabinet Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and seers of various maths were
present.
