SC/ST Confederation accuses govt of violating reservation policy

Jammu Tawi, December 18

More than 100 activists of the All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC
and other social organisations assembled to chalk out the future
course of action in the backdrop of anti-reservation attitude of the
present coalition government. While speaking on the occasion all the
participants highlighted the discrimination being meted out to the
SC/ST/OBC communities in all spheres. The reservation provisions are
flouted by all the departments without any fear and this has never
happened before in this state. Also the matter of tempering with the
KAS seniority list and pushing down at the bottom to all the KAS
officers belonging to reserved categories was discussed in which it
was apprised to the general house that the matter was brought in the
notice of all the MLAs/ MLCs/Chairpersons of all boards belonging to
these communities well in advance but unfortunately with no results.
The meeting observed that this was for the first time in the history
of the state that out of 131 KAS officers promoted recently not a
single officer from SC/ST Community was promoted. The president of
the Confederation R K Kalsotra in his address dealt the conspiracy
angle at length and raised serious doubts about the designs of those
sitting at very senior positions in the GAD and higher bureaucratic
offices in the civil secretariat who are duty bound to ensure
implementation of reservation provisions in letter and spirit. He has
appealed all the members of the community to reach in large number on
December 25 at canal head at 11am for larger conference to expose the
true face of anti-reservation coalition regime and more particularly
ministers belonging to these communities who have done nothing to save
reservation and to chalk out the future course of action.

[ZESTCaste] First Dalit venture capital fund likely by August

http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/industry-and-economy/article2723925.ece?homepage=true&ref=wl_home

First Dalit venture capital fund likely by August
Our Bureau

The country could see its first Dalit venture capital fund of Rs 500
crore by August.

Dalit entrepreneurs are in the process of getting clearances from the
Securities and Exchange Board of India for setting up the fund.

The fund is being registered under a special purpose vehicle of the
Pune-based Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DICCI).

Mr Milind Kamble, Chairman of DICCI, told media persons on the
sidelines of DICCI trade fair on Friday that the fund would be set
with contributions from established Dalit businessmen and corporate
houses.

Currently, DICCI is seeking subscription from Indian companies but in
future, foreign companies would also be able participate, he said.

"Business houses like Tata Group, Thermax, Godrej, and Forbes Marshall
are keen to help DICCI in setting up the fund. The fund will provide
financial support to companies who have new and innovative ideas. A
number of companies including a pipe manufacturing unit have
approached DICCI for funds," Mr Kamble said.

Also addressing the media, Mr Adi Godrej, Chairman of the Godrej
Group, said that the business development achieved by Dalit
entrepreneurs is very impressive; they have a good momentum and it
should be further encouraged.

Development of venture capital funds will help the Dalit businessmen
in the long run, he said.

On the issue of reservation for Dalits in the private sector, Mr
Godrej said the job reservation is not the solution. The best option
is to let free enterprise grow.

The corporate social responsibility programmes of business house
should be used for the development of the Dalits. "It will help
achieve much more development than job reservations," he said.

[ZESTCaste] Dalit outfit plans 'awareness' campaign against Team Anna

http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2011-12-17/news/30528687_1_team-anna-s-lokpal-bill-chaityabhoomi

Dalit outfit plans 'awareness' campaign against Team Anna
PTI Dec 17, 2011, 09.26pm IST

MUMBAI: A Dalit outfit has vowed to launch an awareness campaign,
beginning from December 27, about the "unconstitutional" demand being
made by Team Anna to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in the ongoing winter
session of the Parliament.

The 'Samvidhan Bachao Andolan' ( Save Constitution Campaign), to be
launched by the Dalit Panther being led by prominent Dalit leader and
poet Namdeo Dhasal, would kick off from Chaityabhoomi in Central
Mumbai to give a "befitting" reply to Team Anna for their
"anti-constitutional" demand.

The drive is aimed at creating awareness by organising a public meeting.

"Their (Team Anna's) demands are unconstitutional. Government should
oppose the recommendations made by them in the Lokpal Bill," Dhasal
told PTI.

He also said that a 'mashal morcha' (torch march) would be taken from
Chaityabhoomi to Raj Bhawan in the evening on December 27.

"Our delegation will meet Governor K Sankaranarayanan and hand over a
representation to him stating how the demands made by team Anna are
unconstitutional," he added.

The Dalit activist said a similar representation asking Team Anna
members to withdraw their demand would be handed over to them during
their planned protest in the city.

However, if they (Team Anna) do not pay any heed to it, the Dalit
Panther would stage demonstrations, Dhasal added.
