[ZESTCaste] 'Aarakshan' my most complicated role: Saif Ali Khan

'Aarakshan' my most complicated role: Saif Ali Khan
New Delhi, Aug 6, (PTI):

Saif Ali Khan says playing a Dalit teacher in Prakash Jha's upcoming
film 'Aarakshan' has been his most difficult role so far.

The actor, who has an image of the sophisticated urban hero, is seen
speaking in chaste Hindi in the movie, which also stars veteran
Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Prateik and Manoj Bajpai.

And it was not an easy task for the actor, who struggles with Hindi in
real life, to speak the language fluently, especially in front of
Bachchan, who is famous for his command on the language.

"I am really happy to work in this movie and I thank Prakashji for
giving me the most difficult and complicated role of my career. I have
worked hard to understand and play this character," Saif, who was in
the city to promote the film, told reporters.

The 40-year-old actor said that despite having reservation as the
backdrop, the film talks about human relationships and how issues like
this affect individuals.

"I think it is a very dramatic movie. When I was offered the role, my
mother told me 'Go practice your Hindi' and she was right. Prakashji
and Amitji both speak the Sanskrit Hindi," Saif added.

'Aarakshan' releases all over on August 12.

Samta Parishad, RPI activists hold protest against Aarakshan
Published: Saturday, Aug 6, 2011, 20:13 IST
Place: Mumbai | Agency: PTI

Six members of Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal's social
organisation and 15 workers of RPI were today arrested on charges of
unlawful assembly after they held protests for stalling the release of
Prakash Jha's upcoming flick Aarakshan, police said.

Terming it "anti-dalit" and "anti-reservation", the protesters staged
demonstrations at Mahim and outside the Andheri-based office of the
film director Prakash Jha, which was later provided security, they
said.

Policemen were also deployed outside the residence of Saif Ali Khan
who plays a lead role in the film, police said.

At Mahim, members of the All-India Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad
blackened the hoarding of the film and also tore the posters, raising
slogans against the director and the film.

"All the six belonging Samata Parishad were arrested after the protest
and later granted bail," R M Desai, senior inspector at Mahim police
station told PTI.

Bhujbal, who is the state Public Works Department Minister and a
prominent OBC leader from the Nationalist Congress Party, heads the
Samata Parishad.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes had recently dubbed
Aarakshan, a socio-political drama based on the reservation in jobs
and educational institutions in the country, to be released on August
12, as "anti-dalit".

Prakash Surve of the Samata Parishad said, "The movie should be banned
as it can hurt the sentiments of the backward classes. Reservation is
concerned with the existence and pride of the backward classes".

In Andheri, the Republican Party of India workers held demonstration
outside the office of Jha when they were rounded up, police added.

"15 persons of RPI were picked and taken to Amboli police station,"
said Additional Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil.

Saying 15 RPI activists were arrested and later released on bail by
the police station, Deputy Police Commissioner Pratap Digaokar added,
"The protesters in Andheri termed the movie as anti reservation as
well as anti-dalit".

Aarakshan, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan
in lead roles is a socio-political drama based on the caste-based
reservations in government jobs and educational institutions.

My film Is Not Anti-Reservation or Anti-Dalit: Prakash Jha
Posted on August 06th, 2011 in Entertainment

By Eugene Desiree
Mumbai- Fed up with the controversies and protest against his upcoming
film Aarakshan, Prakash Jha stated that his film has been approved by
the Censor Board.

my-film-is-not-anti-reservation-or-anti-dalit-prakash-jha

Aarakshan deals with the issue of commercialisation of education. It
has nothing related to anti-dalit or anti-reservation as has been
pointed out.

It revolves around caste-based reservations in both government jobs as
well as educational institutions. Today the Maharashtra government
conveyed to the Bombay High Court that if any problem occurs post
release of the film, they will manage the law and order conditions.

Vijay Patil, additional government pleader who was also present at the
court stated that it is the duty of the government to uphold law and
order.

The film is under controversy on charges that its anti-reservation
stand is likely to create dissonance in the society. Aarakshan will
hit theatres on 12th August.

HYDERABAD: State government must set up an SC and ST commission
immediately and release special component fund for the improvement of
their living standards, or they would launch agitations across the
state, warned Karem Sivagi, president of Mala Mahanadu.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said the state
government has failed to fill up the 6,384 backlog posts for the past
five years. "Dalits and adivasis were ignored by the government by not
sanctioning sufficient funds. Particularly members of the Mala
community were not given any important posts in the government sector
as there is stiff opposition the Madiga community," he alleged.

He announced that the Mala Mahanadu had called for 'Chalo Hyderabad'
programme and a state level meeting on August 11 at Ambedkar Bhavan,
Lower Tank Bund.

There would be two sessions in the meeting and then a rally from
Ambedkar Bahavan to Indira Park. The evening meeting will be at
Bhasheerbagh press club from 3 to 5 p.m.

Mala Mahanadu vice presidents P Rammurthy and M Chinna Rao, general
secretary T Kasanna and other members of Mala Mahanadu were present.
