Sullia : Revenue Department has issued a notice to 25 residents who
have illegally encroached the Government lands earmarked for the
Dalits.

This notice was isssued based on the complaint received by the dalits.
The dalits had submitted a complaint to the District Administration
and Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate stating that the government
land meant for them had been taken over illegally by people belonging
to other castes and religions and commercial complexes have also come
up there.

The revenue department, in its notices, has asked these people to
produce documents if any to prove their ownership on their holding, or
vacate the land within seven days.

Land measuring 7.3 acres in survey No. 276/1E1B located by the side of
the Gandhinagar school ground here, has been earmarked for scheduled
caste families. About 60 dalits live in this land at present. This
place is known as Navoor Colony, and residences of people from some
other communities and commercial complexes have also come up there.

The Tahsildar has also issued an order to collect relevant reports
from the taluk surveyor and revenue inspector and probe proper action
against illegal encraochers.

Paswan laments attacks on Dalits

New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI) Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan
today lamented the rise in attacks on Dalits and minorities in the
country and said the government had failed to take effective steps
against it.

At his party''s National Executive Meeting, Paswan said the nation is
passing through "very critical and difficult times," with crucial
issues of price rise, corruption and attacks on vulnerable people
shattering hope of the common man.

"There is a continuous rise in attacks on minorities and Dalits
throughout the country, but it is highly shocking that both the Centre
as well as the state governments have not taken any effective measures
to control the situation," Paswan said on the sidelines of the
meeting.

Citing the Mirchpur incident in Haryana, and that of Banthal and Dhada
in Gujarat where Dalits have been "forcibly evicted", he called it a
matter of grave concern and national shame.

He said that in Uttar Pradesh where a Dalit chief minister was in
power, attacks on the community, rapes and murder had become the order
of the day.
Paswan also used the occasion to raise the issue of land acquisition
and support the creation of smaller states.

He said policies being worked out on the issue of land acquisition
must take into consideration the concerns of farmers, share croppers
and all interested parties.

He said his party stands for making right to employment a fundamental
right and also supports reservation for women in Parliament and state
Assembly but with provision of quota within for scheduled castes and
tribes, backward classes and minorities.

"We support the cause of creation of Telangana and also for the demand
of creation of other smaller states. We also support the demand for
creation of new states in western UP, Central Uttar Pradesh,
Purvanchal and Bundelkhand," Paswan said.

AHMEDABAD: Two men allegedly raped a 20-year-old dalit girl, who had
come to the city seeking a livelihood.

Police arrested six people including a woman and the two men who the
girl accused of raping her on Friday night in Sola area.

Sola police told TOI that Savita (name changed), who is from Amreli
used to work with a city-based film production company till four
months ago. She was out of the job for the last four months because of
a severe back pain and had been staying with her sister in Amreli. Her
father died two years ago and her mother remarried leaving her to fend
for herself.

She came to Ahmedabad a week ago looking for a job and came in contact
with Kajal Dave alias Meena. Dave let her stay with her at her home in
Bansidhar Aavas in Sola and promised to find her a job, said Sola
police. Savita told the police that on Friday Dave got drunk and told
her that she was into prostitution and invited Savita to join her.

The horrified girl walked out of the house with her belongings and
when she reached Navrangpura, around 9 pm, two youths abducted her on
a bike from near the old high court.

The girl identified the youths as Mayur and his friend Jaydev. Police
said Mayur, who works as a floor assistant at a mall, is Dave's
boyfriend and used to help her financially. Savita knew him as he used
to stay with Dave occasionally.

She said in her statement that he had got furious after she left and
pursued her. He took her to a house in Akanksha flats near Sola
bridge, which belonged to an autorickshaw driver, Jeetubhai.

She told police that the men beat her in the presence of Jeetubhai's
sons Aalap and Darshan, locked her up and raped her. Later Dave came
to the scene and got into an argument with the men. In the commotion,
Savita called up the police control room. When Mayur learnt of the
call, he broke her cell phone and robbed her of Rs 10,000. She however
managed to flee and landed in the custody of Sola police who had
reached the spot. Police detained the accused from the flat. The case
was transferred to the SC/ST cell of the city police since Savita is a
dalit.

R L Chavda, deputy superintendent of police, SC/ST cell, told TOI that
they have sought medical and forensic reports in the case and have
arrested Mayur, Jaydev, Aalap, Darshan, Jeetubhai and Meena. The
bedsheets and clothes found from the spot were handed over to forensic
experts for investigation. Police also found used condoms and
pornographic material from the spot. Jeetu's autorickshaw parked below
the flat was vandalized by the local residents after the incident came
to light on Saturday, said officials.

KATHMANDU: Nepal National Dalit Liberation Front has felicitated 200
Dalit students.

Organising a programme on Saturday, the Dalit Front honored students
including 20 with distinction, 50 first division and130 second
divisions in the School Leaving Certificate examinations from
Kathmandu in 2067 BS.

The felicitated are Pramila Ramtel (90.13 per cent), who secured
highest marks from among Dalit students, Ruchi Darnal (89.38 per
cent), Sanjeev Ghatane (89 per cent), among others.

Felicitating the students, UCPN-Maoist politburo member and lawmaker
Biswobhakta Dulal said the educated Dalit students should get proper
place in employment.

UCPN-Maoist) advisor and lawmaker Tilak Pariyar said environment
conducive for the easy access to education should be created so that
overall Dalit community can come forward.
