Dalit sammelan held on Ravidas Jayanti

ALLAHABAD: The 649 birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas was celebrated in
city under the banner of different social and cultural organisations
who also organised a dalit sammelan at the statue of his wife Mata
Lona near Ganga Pollution Board office in Buxi Bundh on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, senior lawyer, Shukdev said that the saint
movement in the country took roots amidst religious and social turmoil
against the oppression of feudal chieftains. The saints advocated
unity of human beings instead of caste and communities.
Another speaker, C B Bharti said that the saints of this movement
stressed on rendering a humane and compassionate touch towards those
who were facing discrimination in society.
Chief guest, Alok Prasad of Allahabad University said that no Brahmin
was the guru of these saints because they knew that knowledge is the
only guru or teacher.
