BANGALORE: In an era when flash mobs and marathons call attention to
socially relevant situations, Trailwalker emerges as the new tool to
fight poverty and injustice. As global ambassador for Oxfam, an NGO,
actor Rahul Bose brought the first Trailwalker in India to an active
start on the outskirts of Bangalore - at Sangam - on Friday.

"Trailwalker is the greatest fundraising event in NGO history and I am
glad it's come to India," explained Bose. "Oxfam works for Dalits,
tribals, Muslims and women in poor states, including Assam ,
Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh."

Participating in this marathon drive to overcome poverty and injustice
are over 300 people comprising the corporate fraternity, Trailwalker
legends Karl Lung and Pete Wong, and other experienced walkers from
Hong Kong.

"I did 24 kilometres today. Although walking through villages isn't
new to me - I spend a good part of my time in villages of Vidarbha,
Andamans and Kashmir - I found the sunrise astonishing today. I walked
trough villages where there's silkworm rearing and met smiling
children in uniform. Of course, kids are weak spots for most people!"
he said.

The actor has taken the cause of educating five children from the
Andamans who are studying at Rishi Valley School. "They are all faring
very well, and we are now on the threshold of selecting six children
from Kashmir to be educated at Sahyadris, Rishi Valley's branch near
Pune," confirmed Bose.

"As a marathoner and rugby player, I believe trailwalking comes with a
separate set of challenges. As a child, I ran - mom always asked me
which train I was catching," laughed the actor.
