Dalits demand reservation
KATHMANDU, AUG 29 -
Dalit communities have urged the new government to reserve 23 percent
of the seats in every state mechanism.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the Joint Political Dalit
Struggle Committee said the Dalit community had been demanding 23
percent reservation in all state mechanisms for long. However, the
leaders have ignored their demands, the committee said.
Also on Monday, Nepal Tamang National Federation demanded that the new
government meet the demands put forth by different indigenous and
Dalit nationalities since the past so many days. The demands,
according to the statement, include sustainable peace, a Unified
Tamsaling Federal State, peace and security and inclusive and
meaningful representation of the Tamang community in state mechanisms.
