Dalits gherao two ministers
Hubli (Karna), Aug 21 (PTI) Dalits of Nayakanooru village today
''gheraoed'' two ministers, including district-incharge minister
Jagadish Shettar against alleged atrocities committed by the upper
caste on them.
The crowd gheraoed Shettar, Social Welfare Minister A Narayanaswamy,
Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi and Navalgund MLA Shankar Patil Munenakopp,
in the midst of tension brewing over a water tank dispute, police
said.
The Dalits were also furious over alleged lack of basic amenities in
their village, they said.
An FIR was lodged by the Dalits some days ago at Navalgund police
station in this regard, they said.
Shettar assured Dalits that he would look into the matter and said the
government had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the development of the
village.
