RJD flays govt for attack on Dalits

PATNA: The RJD has flayed the state government for attack on Dalits at
Harchanda village in Darbhanga district and damage done to Ambedkar`s
statue by local `Dabang` on latter`s birthday. State RJD president
Ramchandra Purvey said that what was more shocking was government`s
stoic silence on the issue.
On return from Harchanda village where RJD MP Ramkripal Yadav had led
a four-member team, the RJD MP said that it was a gory scene. Not only
Ambedkar`s statue was extensively damaged, almost all the Dalits and
people belonging to most backward castes were mercilessly beaten up
and their assets burnt. And, everything appeared stage managed as the
police arrived after the marauders had left and the injured were left
to nurse their wounds.
That the marauders had come well prepared was evident from the
intensity with which they were attacking innocent villagers. Some of
the villagers even fled to save their life. Yadav said that as if
these were not enough, the victims were implicated in false cases
allegedly at the instance of the IG, Darbhanga Zone, who visited the
village much later.
The RJD has demanded adequate compensation to the villagers whose
houses and huts were burnt and reinstallation of Ambedkar`s statue at
the village otherwise its members would stage a dharna and take
recourse to other agitational methods.
