Financial assistance for dalits
The district administration on Wednesday sanctioned financial
assistance of Rs 25,000 each to 16 dalit families whose houses were
ransacked in a village in Alwar last month.
The houses were torched following a clash between dalits and members
of a particular community in Husainpur village on January 19.
Last Monday, hundreds of dalits staged a protest demanding a judicial
probe into the incident.
A memorandum seeking an impartial probe into the ransacking of houses
was also handed over to the authorities.
The dalits alleged those who had ransacked their homes had the
protection of ruling party leaders in Rajasthan.
Besides compensation to affected families, they had demanded stern
action against police and district officers for their "inaction".
