Varun slams Maya for rise in crime against Dalits

Kanpur : Kanpur : BJP MP meets families of two rape victims
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Varun Gandhi, who met the families of
two alleged Dalit rape victims, Vandana and Kavita, at their native
villages near Kanpur on Friday, slammed Chief Minister Mayawati for
being "least concerned about the atrocities on the people of the
state".

Claiming that there has been a spurt in crime against financially weak
and Schedule Castes people during the incumbent BSP government in the
state, Varun said: "It is shocking that though the state has a woman
chief minister, she is least concerned about the atrocities being
committed on the people." He added that law and order has hit an all
time low in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP MP from Pilibhit visited Parauli village, around 40 kms from
Kanpur, where he met the family members of Vandana. The 17-year-old
girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a village youth earlier this
month. After the police refused to register a case against the
accused, Sunil Sin-gh Bhadoria, despite several requests made by the
victim's family, Vandana committed suicide by setting herself on fire.
Varun assured her family of his party's complete support in their
fight for justice.

Later, he reached Ambikapur village in Shuklaganj to meet the family
of Kavita. The 18-year-old Dalit girl, who was admitted to a private
nursing home in Kanpur with head injuries, was allegedly raped by a
ward boy inside the ICU. She died on September 3.

"Both incidents are hear-trending, and the guilty persons should not
be spared at any cost," Varun said after meeting the two families. He
said that his party will raise the incidents in Parliament and
Assembly.

"Even though the BSP was voted in power by people from financially
weak background, it did not take long for the state government to
forget their voters," he said, and added that it was shocking to see
the government being insensitive to these incidents.

Surya Pratap Sahi, the state BJP chief who was accompanying the MP,
alleged that no one was safe in UP and said that the party will make a
list of similar incidents and take up the issue.
