Father shoots daughter and boyfriend in Punjab

In a suspected case of honour killing in Punjab's Moga district, a
teenager and her boyfriend were shot dead by the girl's father. The
incident occurred early on Thursday, when accused Jagtar Singh found
Harjinder Singh in his daughter Lovepreet's room. Harjinder, a
22-year-old student of Industrial Training Institute, is reportedly a
Dalit, while 17-year-old Lovepreet belongs to the Jat Sikh community.
The two had been together for the past several months.
Moga district Police Chief Snehdeep Sharma confirmed the incident to
Hindustan Times.
Investigation officer of the case Partap Singh said, "Lovepreet's
father could not control his anger on seeing some unknown man in his
daughter's room.
He brought out his pistol and fired at them. On hearing the shots,
Harjinder's brother, who was waiting outside, rushed in to intervene,
but he too sustained a bullet injury in the thigh. He has been
admitted in the hospital."
Singh said it could be a case of honour killing, but it was too early
to confirm as investigation was still on. Jagtar Singh is on the run,
he said, adding that the police was raiding various places to arrest
him.
An FIR under section 302, 307 of IPC against Jagtar Singh has been
registered at Bagha Purana police station.
