Dalit woman paraded naked in Punjab

Batala : A Dalit woman was allegedly paraded naked in her village by
an influential neighbour and his relatives who were angry over the
woman's brother-in-law having an affair with a girl of their family.
The woman's neighbour Baldev Singh, whose daughter was having a
relationship with her brother-in-law and his relatives, forcibly took
her to their house on August 10 where they tore her clothes and
paraded her naked in the village, the victim alleged while talking
reporters here today.
She alleged that the police had refused to lodge her complaint as the
family wielded considerable influence in the area.
She said she would take the matter to court as she had failed to get
justice from the police.
When contacted Batala's Senior Superintendent of Police D P Singh
called the entire incident as mere "nonsense".
The incident occurred at Bhagwanpur village under Kotli Surat Malhi
police station in the district.
