 Ilaiah plays the contrarian again

HYDERABAD: The Telugu translation of 'Post-Hindu India' written by
Professor Kancha Ilaiah was released here on Wednesday. The book
highlights the contributions of the marginalised sections in the
 society to science and technology.

Speaking on the occasion, Kancha Ilaiah waded directly into another
controversy, supporting the demand for a ban on the Bhagavad Gita in
 Russia.

"I have been insisting that it is the most violent piece of mythology
written and no wonder that the Russians found the writings extremist
in nature," said the director of CSSEIP at the Maulana Azad National
 Urdu University (MANUU).

The Lokpal committee members were also not spared by Ilaiah as he said
that the demand for representation from each section of minorities was
not adhered to in the formation of an impartial body.

"Mayawati is the new icon indicative of a post-Hindu nation where
power lies in the hands of a Dalit majority," said the writer who
highlights the contrast between 'faith' as ordained by Hinduism and
labour and know-how practised by the subaltern classes in the society.

In the same breath, he said he had never prayed to God. "But I
dedicate the book to Gods of different faiths and ideologies
including Karl Marx," he said. Titled 'Hindu Mataananthara Bhartha'
the volume has been translated by Prabhakar Mandara who is a Sahitya
Akademi awardee. The translation is brought out by EMSCO publishers .
