JNU: Student leader files reply to notice
TNN | Nov 1, 2011, 05.05AM IST

NEW DELHI: Replying to a show cause notice served on him, Jitendra
Kumar Yadav, president, All India Backward Students' Forum (AIBSF) has
categorically denied the charges levelled against him by Jawaharlal
Nehru University. As part of his reply, he submitted a legal document
to the university on Monday, the last day of an extended deadline to
file his reply.

Replying to a show-cause notice served on the president of All India
Backward Students' Forum denied all the charges made against him by
the Jawaharlal Nehru University administration on Monday. AIBSF
president Jitendra Kumar Yadav, submitted a legal notice to the
university in the form of his reply on Monday, the last date for reply
of the extended deadline.

Yadav claimed that AIBSF is a students' political body representing
the students from backward classes and hence has the constitutional
right to propagate its ideology. The notice also claimed that the
poster over which objections have been raised is in fact an excerpt of
an article published in the October edition of Forward Press written
by a social writer. The editorial board of this magazine comprises
Hyderabad University's Kancha Ilaiah and chairperson of Ambedkar Peeth
in Ignou as well as eminent academician Gail Omveldt.

"Even Mahatma Gandhi, Jyoti Phule, Baba Sahib Ambedkar and Periyar
have constantly brought forward the brahmanical religious legends to
the oppressed classes of society. AIBSF refutes all the allegations
made by JNU administration regarding the provocation of religious
issues and we too have a significant number of supporters of our
ideology on the campus," said Yadav.

The controversy started after the AIBSF decided to honour Mahisasura
after a tussle with another section of students, who had allegedly
taken the forum head-on for putting up 'blasphemous posters on the
campus during Durga puja that hurt religious sentiments'. AIBSF
claimed that students affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad
(ABVP) assaulted them.

JNU administration on October 23 served a show cause notice on Yadav,
seeking a reply latest by Thursday from him as to why no action should
be taken against him for his alleged defaming of god. The deadline was
later extended to Monday as Yadav sought more time to reply to the
notice served after an internal inquiry on the incident of circulating
a pamphlet on Mahisasura and honouring the demon found the action had
hurt the sentiments of a certain section of students.

But according to chief proctor H B Bohidar, "I have not received the
reply. Probably it has been submitted later in the day with my office.
I will go through the reply before commenting."
